Ribbon Love

I promise I will start to post like I did in the old days: not just Rockstar and Bounce updates but crafty bits, kudos to other fabulous blogs, recipes and fabulous finds. I promise! I'm really going to try to post at least a couple times a week but I'm saying this while waiting for the newest member of our family to pop so we'll have to wait and see what this little nut is like before I make any number promises

I lurve ribbon . Here are some sweet finds from Etsy and of course some boy inspired designs because I live in Boyville.

Teaching Peanuts to Sew

image via ralphhogaboom

I love the idea of teaching wee ones to sew and have every intention of starting a sewing/crafting club when the day I have my own classroom arrives.

Sewing School is a lovely little blog I found recently that is run by two women who enjoy teaching children to sew - there are loads of fabulous ideas found here for those wanting to sew with their monkeys.

This article is AWESOME. A pre-school teacher describes how she instructs her tiny 3-5 year old children in the art of sewing. Sew sweet!

Learning to Hand Stitch

I'm was super excited to stumble across this Pocket Stitch Book created by Cassi Griffin for Sew, Mama, Sew. This little gem is going to help me complete number 2 on my list of 32. Thanks goes out to a new find, Sewing School, for this link.

I am definitely going to try out this Queen Anne's Lace design - another little something that reminds me of my mom, although I'm not entirely sure why. Mom?

Photos and tutorials from Sew, Mama, Sew.

Sew Jaime Sew

I keep losing the link to this super sweet tutorial so I'm posting to avoid wasting a ridiculous amount of time hunting for it for the 8 millionth time.

SewMamaSew is where I originally found this fab top compliments of the very talented Made by Rae. I love the green fabric she chose for this number... I think this will be my first piece of clothing i make for moi! Fabric store here I come.

Killer Cute

I'm seriously considering learning to embroider thanks to Sublime Stitching's adorable designs.

I love wings, stars and hearts so this design caught my eye immediately! The little flyaway feather on the bird is super sweet. If there was a flying donkey in the mix I think this would be over the top cute.
The Chinese take-out box kills me! Love it.

I don't know what I would stitch these puppies on but the trailer is hilarious and the hot dog? Seriously fabulous!A-d-o-r-a-b-l-e.

Crafty Graffiti

Have you heard of yarnbombing? I hadn't either until I visited Eterknity's blog today and read this post. Check it out... very cool.

Mmmm Buttons

My favourite woman dropped off a massive ziploc bag of my favourite things this weekend - thanks mom! Yay for Thrift Shops and a mom addicted to scouring them for fabulous goods.

I've decided to finally sort my collection of lovely buttons by colour so that I can display them in my sewing room/office. I started sorting and soaking the little buggers last night and I know I'm a dork but there is something oddly satisfying about the task.

Oh how I love buttons.

Bliggity Blogs

While searching for laptop bag inspiration (I will be receiving my new laptop from my new school next Monday) I stumbled upon the blog Thimble, what a great find! Loads of neat arts and crafts tutorials and it's a Canadian site to boot!

Thimble led me to the Altered Cloth site which is also worth checking out, looks like there are some great projects there too!

I love the fact that one great blog usually leads you to a zillion others!

My "It" Things Designer Contest

Have you been to the website MyItThings.com? Take a moment to check it out, it's a pretty cool site. Basically it's a social shopping network, there are some decent writers (bloggers) and loads of unique items for home, entertainment, tech, fashion and body being posted by the sites users. You can create your own page where you share your thoughts on bits you have and love or those you don't but want.

There are contests featured on the site too, mostly writing contests where any user who opens a free writers account can submit an entry, but design contests are featured as well. The prizes are pretty impressive, check out some of the past contests here.

EterKnity has recently entered the It Designer Contest. They chose five of their fabulous pieces for the contest, please take a minute to vote for their designs, your vote could be the one that helps them win an amazing opportunity to see their designs on the runway in a NYC fashion show.

Here's how to vote:

STEP A. Create an account on MyItThings.com

STEP B. Visit the contest main page and click on your favorite design items.

STEP C. Once you are on the individual (EterKnity) design page you will be able to rate it by clicking on one of the 5 stars located below the design name (1 star being the lowest rating).

The final score for each designer will be calculated from the combination of the total number of people voted, number of designs and the stars scored (i.e. each additional scored star will add 1 point to the total score).

Although wishing them luck and crossing your fingers and toes for them is appreciated it would be so much better if you would take the time to vote! Thanks everyone!

Prick!

While trying to stuff a needle through a pile of fabric the other day I thought to myself,"OW! Someone really should invent something to make this a less painful experience." I'm not kidding, I actually had that thought. Duh.

Apparently that's what thimbles are for.

I would have felt pretty silly after reading this post on thimbles over at the Purl Bee, but the article whispered that I was not alone in my ignorance of thimbles, at one point in time the author also thought that they were worn on the thumb and were meant for avoiding the sharp end of the needle. Gee whiz looks like someone thought of finger protection while sewing long before I did. Looks like I'm going to be thimble shopping in the near future...
