India Rose Discount!

The duvet cover (note the ruffles that continue to suck me in) I've featured as this week's Fab Pick of the Week is just one of India Rose's many beautifully designed home furnishings. Suz from Alive in Wonderland wrangled a 20% discount for her readers and asked Suzie, the owner of India Rose, if I could share the code with you here at Gingham Skies. A big thanks to Suzie and to Suz! The discount code is daily25. Happy shopping!

By the way I L-O-V-E the croc cubes but couldn't get the picture to post without the colours going all wonky... these pillars are definitely a closer runner up for my luv. Fabulous!

Growling Kids and Hungry Caterpillars

Grade 1 is exhausting: 4 days down, 10 to go. 26 seven year old children in one room is crazy... C-R-A-Z-Y.

Photo from Coco Cake Cupcakes

If I didn't have so many peanut and lactose allergies in the room I would definitely make this fabulous Very Hungry Caterpillar for my kiddies on my last day... I might make it for myself anyways, I could use a zillion caterpillar cupcakes to renew the energy that the little monsters have zapped from me.

Left Without a Word

The past few weeks have been insane! I've finished all of my university classes, that means no more assignments for this chiquita. Now I'm down to my final practicum: six weeks of teaching the little monkeys and then my BEd will be complete! I can't believe the year is almost over, it certainly has been an interesting journey...

With the chaos of the final few weeks of school absorbing my time and thoughts I failed to mention the fact that I was heading to Mexico for March break. Whoops.

Mike's parents treated us to a fabulous week at the Dreams, Huatulco. We are so appreciative of this wonderful gift, it was an amazing break from reality for all of us.

Both of these shots were taken from our balcony. In the one below you can see that I was stalking Mike while he took his morning walk, he's the being on the beach (bottom right corner).

The resort was beautiful, food was great, service was outstanding: we were pleasantly surprised to find that the Dreams resorts are pretty close to Sandals when it comes to quality. Definitely a five star resort.

The three infinity pools are stellar and we spent a good chunk of every day with our chins perched on the edge of the pool gazing out at the ocean. Mike and his mom - neither of whom would be considered water babies - spent more time in the water this vacation then they ever have.

Huatulco is located on the Pacific coast and is south of Acapulco which meant the weather was phenomenal but the ocean was intense. A few beaches down from us people were surfing...

There were three days when going in the ocean was not an option - although Dave (Mike's dad) decided to give swimming a go despite the red flags, much to the delight of his audience. The ocean looked innocent enough, at times the ten foot plus waves would calm down but the undertow was insane. You can see the boys running from the waves in the shot below, that was right after they had been pummeled by a huge wave.
It really was an awesome trip. We enjoyed every moment of it, the quality time with Bridie and Dave was wonderful and we thank them from the bottom of our hearts for an amazing week of relaxation!

Now it's time to return to reality: lesson planning here I come.

I Confess...

While rotting on the couch feeling sorry for my flu-infected self this week I realized something: I love ruffles. I'm sure my dad is reading this shaking his head. I was an anti-pink anti-ruffle girl growing up and now I'm all about pink AND ruffles? What the?

Here are a few of the lovely bits I've fallen for while searching for ruffles.

My all-time favourite 'grown-up' bikini is a Victoria Secret suit. Buying a bathing suit on-line made me super nervous but it ended up being a perfect fit thanks to the excellent sizing thingo on the VS website. I think this ruffled number in black is fab and might actually convince me to wear a bikini in public this summer... I said MIGHT.

I heart not only this super sweet bag MadeByHank has created, but the name too: a roundy-bottomed tough ruffles zipper purse in pale seafoam and dark olive. Perfection.

Our sheets and duvet cover are a crisp pure white and I doubt I'll ever stray far from this look because I LOVE it. These ruffled pillows by Hettle would look fab on our bed... hmmm maybe I'll have to make some new pillow cases.

Eventually I'll get around to making myself one of these adorable ruffled aprons with the free tutorial found over at One More Moore.

Thanks to Orange Beautiful for the discovery of the bikini and pillow case.

Are you pro or anti-ruffles?

He's Got My Vote!

Did you apply for The Best Job In The World?! I didn't but WOW would that be a sweet job. Living on an island in the Great Barrier Reef, earning AUD $150,000 while acting as 'Island Caretaker' for 6 months?! The job entails keeping a blog, video and photo diaries while exploring this little piece of heaven. Who would say no to that opportunity?!

There were thousands of applicants for the job and somehow they managed to narrow those thousands down to 50 plus one. The next step is to narrow those 50 down to 10 and the public's votes will help with that task.

I might be a bit biased but I think you should cast your vote for Mitchell, yes he's from a city that's only 20 minutes away from me but that's beside the point, how could you consider voting for any of the other applicant after watching this video?

Cast your vote for Mitchell here.
